Childcare staff members are selected for their training, skills, experience and love of children. Parental input and participation is encouraged.
Application/Admissions and COVID-19
Read on to learn more about how we regularly approach the admissions process. When you see a reference to a visit, a meeting, an open house, or a tour, please remember that these aspects of our process will be modified as needed to stay in compliance with up-to-date guidelines from our public health authorities.
FAQ: “Is there room?”
From the beginning of this process, we will gladly answer questions about availability in your child’s grade. We encourage interested families to build an application file, even when no spaces are available. We refer to our pool of pre-approved applicants whenever a space becomes available.
Here’s what you can anticipate:
First Phase: Exploration
We look forward to meeting you!
Contact us to schedule a meeting (in person, or remotely, for out-of-province applicants). We’ll do our best to answer your questions and to learn more about what you are looking for in a school. We will also want to get to know your child through your eyes.
Second Phase: Formal Application
Your child’s formal application begins with payment of an application fee ($100, or $300 for applicants from outside of Canada) and submission of an application form:
Pre-primary application form
Primary application form
Elementary application form (for students applying for any grade from Grade 1 to Grade 6)
Middle School application form (for students applying for Grade 7, 8, or 9)
With submissions from you and your child’s current teacher/caregiver, we will assemble an application file for your child.
Application File Components
- Required Documents:
- Application Form (see above)
- Birth Certificate (copied for file)
- (for Pre-Primary applications, only) Immunization Record
- Required Reference Material:
- Copies of reports resulting from any prior educational assessments other than report cards.
- If applying to Preschool or Primary
- If applying to any grade above Primary:
Application materials can be submitted by email to firstname.lastname@example.org
As we review your child’s application materials, we will be in touch with any follow-up questions.
Final Phase: Your Child’s Visit
Student visits are arranged at the school’s discretion and scheduled in consultation with the family. Except in extraordinary circumstances, every student is expected to complete an admission visit in person.
Visits vary in length (2 hours - full day) depending on the applicant’s age/grade. Our focus is on showing every applicant hospitality and more fully understanding the applicant through their participation and their interactions with our staff and students.
Student visits are intended to be independent and so we ask that parents prepare their child to visit on their own. If a child is unable to visit independently, a follow-up visit will likely be required. Our hope is that every applicant will join in all class activities, which could include whole-class instruction/discussions/activities, small group collaboration, one-to-one interactions with the teacher, snack/lunch time, and unstructured play/free time with our students.
Soon after your child’s visit, we will make a final assessment of your child’s application and communicate our decision to you by phone or email. If your child’s application is approved, we will also indicate whether there is a space available. When there is no space available, approved applicants are included in our waiting pool.
When an available space is offered to you, we hold it for you for a maximum of four days, to allow you to make a final decision. Formalize your child’s enrolment by making a non-refundable prepayment of a portion of the fees, as well as completing and submitting the legally binding Fee Payment Agreement and arranging the payment schedule for the balance of the fees. The Fee Payment Agreement addresses cancellation, refunds and financial obligations pertaining to enrolment.
*Failure to enrol by the deadline given will release that spot for other approved applicants.
Please contact us to ask questions or to request a meeting.
Tours/Open House Events and COVID-19
Read on to learn more about how we regularly approach informational tours and open house events. Please remember that these aspects of our process will be modified as needed to stay in compliance with up-to-date guidelines from our public health authorities. At present, there are no open house events on our calendar, but we would welcome an opportunity for a virtual meeting, or a tour by special arrangement. We look forward to meeting you!
A private admissions meeting or attendance at one of our open house events is a prerequisite for application. Please call (902) 423-9777 or email email@example.com to request a tour or to learn more about our next open house opportunity.
Applicants’ visits begin in January for September enrolments.
Timing: Visits are the final step in the application process, and are scheduled once the application file has been fully assembled.
Duration: Children applying for Pre-primary come for a two-hour visit. Children applying for grades Primary through Grade 5 come for a morning, and children applying for Grades 6 through 9 come for a full-day visit.
Your child will be welcomed into a classroom and will participate in classroom activities. Close observations will be taken to assess his or her readiness and suitability for the school. No later than the Friday following your child’s visit, the teacher will contact you by phone to discuss your child’s experience and, if appropriate, to extend the offer of a place in the school programme.
We would be pleased to have you and your child visit us to explore our classrooms and discover our love of learning. Please call or email firstname.lastname@example.org to set up a tour or an admissions visit.
